# 3MF Viewer

Open 3MF models online and preview full-color materials and multiple components before you print.

**Category:** 3D Model Viewer Tools (`preview`)

> Runs entirely in the browser. Files are not uploaded to Any3D servers.

## Overview

3MF is a 3D printing format built to preserve more than just geometry. It stores colors, materials, textures, and multiple components in a single compressed file, which makes it a natural choice for color and multi-material printing workflows. This viewer works directly in your browser, with no software to install. It shows each component separately and keeps the original colors and materials visible so you can inspect the full assembly before sending the model to a slicer like Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, or Cura. Since the file never leaves your device, your models stay private.

## Tips

- Preview 3MF files directly in your browser
- See colors, materials, and component assembly clearly
- Files stay on your device and are never uploaded

## About Configuration Options

### Preview settings

- **Auto-rotate** (Default: Off): Slowly rotate the model around the vertical axis after loading for a full view. Can be toggled anytime in the left panel.
  - `on` — On: Auto-rotate after loading
  - `off` — Off (Recommended): Stay still, rotate manually only (default)

### Animation

- **Clips**: Number of animation clips stored in the file.
- **Bones**: Number of skeleton bones used for rigging and skinning.

- **Description:** 3MF is a modern 3D printing format from the 3MF Consortium, based on XML and packaged as a ZIP container. It preserves mesh data and supports per-part color, material, texture, and print properties. It is recommended for multi-color and multi-material printing. Major slicers (Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer) have native support.

Compared to STL, 3MF carries richer information but is more complex. Some older slicers and printers may not recognize it. When converting from other formats, color and material mapping depend on source data. For simple single-color printing, STL remains sufficient. For multi-color, multi-material, or print parameter transfer, choose 3MF.
- **Supported Features:**
  - Per-part and per-vertex color support
  - Material and texture preservation
  - XML-based with ZIP compression
  - Native support in Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer
- **Notes:**
  - Some older slicers and printers may not support 3MF
  - More complex than STL but carries richer information

## How to use

### 1. Upload Model

Drag your 3MF file onto the page, or click to select a file. If you have associated textures, package them into a ZIP and upload together.

### 2. View Model

Drag with the mouse to rotate the model, scroll to zoom, and inspect the appearance, colors, and animations from any angle.

### 3. Done

Your files are processed only in your browser. No data remains after you close the page.

## FAQ

### What is the difference between 3MF and STL files?

3MF saves color, material, and component information in one file, while STL only stores geometric shape. This viewer shows the realistic colored appearance of the model, which makes it ideal for checking color 3D prints on Bambu Lab, Prusa, or other multicolor printers before slicing.

### If a 3MF file contains multiple parts, can the viewer tell them apart?

Yes. The viewer automatically detects each component and displays them with distinct colors and positions, so the assembly relationship is immediately clear. This helps you verify part placement and catch assembly errors before printing.

### What should I check when previewing a multicolor 3D printing model?

Check that colors and materials look correct and that every component is present. Filament swaps and color changes are expensive to waste, so catching mismatched colors or missing parts early will reduce failed prints.

### What is the 3MF format best suited for?

3MF is ideal for color 3D printing, multi-material models, and complex assemblies where finish and structure matter. Previewing confirms the design matches what a slicer needs and can reveal missing colors or missing parts before you waste material.

### Does 3MF store the real physical size of the model?

Yes. 3MF stores physical dimensions in millimeters, so the file carries exact measurements that slicers can use directly. Use this preview to check scale and proportions before sending the model to print.

### Why is a 3MF file usually smaller than an equivalent STL?

3MF stores data in a compressed ZIP container and describes geometry more efficiently than STL, even while carrying colors, materials, and component information. Smaller files are also faster to upload and load in your slicer.
