# GLB Texture Extractor

Extract all embedded textures from a single GLB file at original resolution.

**Category:** 3D Model Analysis Tools (`analysis`)
**Subgroup:** Texture Extraction (`texture-analysis`)

> Runs entirely in the browser. Files are not uploaded to Any3D servers.

## Overview

GLB files often pack textures into a single container. This page reads and exports those embedded textures, making it easy to reuse color, normal, roughness, and other channels in your own projects.

## Tips

- Prefers embedded textures
- No scaling, no recompression
- Download each channel individually

## About Configuration Options

### Export options

- **All textures ZIP**: Export every texture as original-resolution PNG and download them in a single ZIP. This is the default download action.
- **Each material as GLB (ZIP)**: Export each material as its own mesh-free GLB (material definition + textures only), then pack them into a ZIP, useful for splitting a material library.
- **All materials as one GLB**: Merge every material into a single GLB file for one-shot import of the full material set.
- **Single texture PNG**: Download the currently selected texture as lossless PNG at original resolution. KTX2 compressed maps are converted to PNG automatically.
- **Single material GLB**: Export the selected material as a standalone mesh-free GLB for reuse in Blender, Unity, Unreal, and similar tools.
- **Multi-select materials**: Hold Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) and click materials in the sidebar to select several, then batch-download them as a ZIP. Press Esc to clear the selection.

### Browse and filter

- **Search**: Filter the sidebar list by material name or texture file name.
- **Texture type**: Filter by map slot such as diffuse, normal, roughness, metalness, emissive, or AO. Shown only when the model has more than one slot type.

### Inspect properties

- **Material properties**: Inspect material type (for example Standard PBR), base color, metalness, roughness, and other scalar or color fields. Copy individual rows or export full JSON.
- **Texture properties**: Inspect resolution, color space, wrap mode, filter mode, and anisotropy sampling parameters.
- **Material sphere preview**: Preview the material on a 3D sphere with HDR environment lighting to judge maps and PBR parameters at a glance.
- **Wireframe / solid**: Toggle wireframe and solid rendering in the model preview to inspect mesh topology.

## Format Information

### Input format

- **Extension:** glb
- **Full Name:** GL Transmission Format Binary (glTF 2.0)
- **Type:** 3D Model
- **Format:** GLB
- **Tools:** [Three.js](https://threejs.org), [Babylon.js](https://www.babylonjs.com), [Blender](https://www.blender.org)
- **Open With:** [3D Model Viewer](https://any3d.cc/en-US/tools/3dmodel-viewer), [GLB Viewer](https://any3d.cc/en-US/tools/glb-viewer)
- **Description:** GLB is the binary glTF 2.0 format from Khronos Group, packing meshes, materials, textures, and animations into one file. It is the standard for Web 3D and AR/VR, used by Three.js, Babylon.js, model-viewer, and e-commerce previews for self-contained, reliable distribution.

GLB supports PBR materials, skeletal animations, Draco and Meshopt compression, suitable for web, AR, and cross-software use. However, it loses CAD parametric history when tessellated from STEP or native CAD. For 3D printing, use STL or 3MF as slicers cannot import GLB.
- **Supported Features:**
  - Single self-contained binary file
  - PBR material support (base color, metallic, roughness, normal maps)
  - Skeletal animation, skinning, and morph targets
  - Draco mesh compression and KTX2 texture compression
  - Multi-mesh nodes and scene hierarchy
- **Notes:**
  - Some 3D printing slicers cannot directly import GLB files
  - Not suitable for CAD parametric editing

### Output format

- **Extension:** png
- **Full Name:** Extracted Textures and Materials
- **Type:** Image / Material Package
- **Format:** PNG / Material GLB / ZIP
- **Tools:** [Photoshop](https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop.html), [Blender](https://www.blender.org), [GIMP](https://www.gimp.org)
- **Open With:** Image Editor, [3D Model Viewer](https://any3d.cc/en-US/tools/3dmodel-viewer)
- **Description:** Textures are exported as lossless PNG at original resolution. Materials can also be exported as mesh-free GLB (containing only material definitions and textures) for reuse as a material library, or multiple textures/materials can be packaged as a ZIP for download.
- **Supported Features:**
  - PNG download per texture
  - Mesh-free material GLB export
  - ZIP package for multiple textures or materials
  - Original resolution preserved
- **Notes:**
  - KTX2-compressed textures are converted to PNG on export
  - Material GLB contains only materials and textures, no mesh geometry
  - Multi-select packs materials as ZIP with one GLB per material

## How to use

### 1. Upload Model

Drag and drop your 3D model file onto the upload area, or click to browse.

### 2. Browse Textures

Click on materials and textures in the sidebar to preview.

### 3. Download Textures

Download individual textures as PNG, or export the material as GLB.

## FAQ

### What output format is used?

Extracted textures keep their original embedded format. PNG is the default, and JPEG is also available. The tool does not recompress or transcode, so the original resolution and dimensions are preserved exactly.

### What if no textures are extracted?

Missing textures usually mean the GLB file didn't embed any images, or they are externally referenced. Make sure your GLB contains embedded textures; this tool only reads internal data.

### Will the resolution be reduced?

No. The tool reads the raw texture data directly from the GLB file, so the extracted images keep the exact same resolution and quality as the originals. No recompression or scaling occurs.

### How are extracted texture files named?

Textures are extracted using their original names inside the GLB, preserving suffixes like '_baseColor' or '_normal'. If multiple textures share the same name, they are numbered sequentially to avoid overwriting.

### Are GLB textures always embedded, or can they be external?

GLB is a self-contained binary format, so in practice all images are packed inside the file and this tool reads them directly. External references are theoretically possible but very rare; if a GLB yields no textures, it simply contains none.

### Can I re-embed the extracted textures into a GLB after editing?

Yes. After editing the extracted images, use the GLB Texture Compression tool to re-encode and re-embed the maps (WebP/JPEG/PNG/KTX2) into a single GLB. Alternatively, assign the edited maps to the model in Blender and export a new GLB.
