# 3D Model Analyzer

Load a model and instantly see vertex count, physical size, volume, and watertight status, all right in your browser.

**Category:** 3D Model Analysis Tools (`analysis`)
**Subgroup:** Model Analysis (`model-info`)

**HTML:** https://any3d.cc/en-US/tools/model-analyzer

> Runs entirely in the browser. Files are not uploaded to Any3D servers.

## Overview

After loading a supported 3D file, you can inspect file size, vertex and face counts, mm-accurate dimensions, volume, surface area, watertight status, mesh quality, materials, textures, and animations.

## Tips

- Copy the full analysis report with one click
- Watertight means every edge is shared by exactly two triangles
- If the model has animations, all clips play by default
- Dimensions are converted when the file includes length units

## How to Use

1. **Upload a model:** Drop STL, GLB, OBJ, FBX and other formats
2. **Review the analysis panel:** Expand each section to view metrics
3. **Copy or preview animation as needed:** Copy the report, or click animation clips to play a preview

## FAQ

### What does watertight mean?

A watertight (manifold) mesh requires every edge to be shared by exactly two triangles: no holes or non-manifold edges. 3D printing and Boolean operations usually require watertight meshes.

### Why might the dimensions be off?

When a file has no unit metadata, the tool assumes 1 unit = 1 mm. Large CAD models exported in meters will look enormous, so scale them before printing.

### How does the tool handle models with animations?

The analysis panel shows the number of animation clips and plays all of them by default. You can also use the play or pause buttons to preview a single clip.

### How do I copy the analysis report?

Click the copy button at the top-right of the analysis panel or next to the report title. The full report is copied to the clipboard so you can share or save it.

### How can I check whether a model is ready for 3D printing?

Start with the watertight status: printing usually requires a mesh with no holes or non-manifold edges. Then verify dimensions and units (the tool treats 1 unit as 1 mm when metadata is missing), and use the volume to estimate material usage.

### Why do face and vertex counts matter?

They affect file size, load time, and how demanding the mesh is for slicing or real-time rendering. The analyzer reports vertex count, face count, and an estimated memory footprint so you can spot overly dense meshes that may need decimation.

### Is Any3D completely free?

Yes, Any3D's core features are free to use forever. We provide format conversion, model optimization, and online preview at no cost, with no registration required.

### Are my files uploaded to your servers?

No. Files you select are processed only in your browser on this device, so they never leave your device and are never sent to our servers. We don't store any user files; after processing, related data in browser memory is released.

### Do I need to install software?

No installation required. Any3D is entirely browser-based; just open the webpage to use all features. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and other major operating systems.

### Is there a file size limit?

There is no cap on file size or polygon count. How large a model you can open depends on your device's memory and graphics card, and very heavy models may make the page lag or crash. Some tools do limit how many files go in at once, such as {maxBatchModels} models per batch or single images up to {maxImageSizeMb} MB in texture compression. See [Limits](/help/limits) for the full list.

## About Configuration Options

### Model info

- **File format**: Extension of the uploaded file (e.g. GLB, STL, OBJ).
- **File size**: Total size of the uploaded model file on disk.
- **Data footprint**: Estimated GPU usage for geometry buffers plus textures (including mipmaps).

### Geometry

- **Vertices**: Number of vertices in the mesh geometry.
- **Triangles**: Number of triangular faces in the mesh.
- **Size**: Bounding box dimensions in millimeters along X, Y and Z.
- **Volume**: Solid volume of the closed mesh, from tetrahedral decomposition.
- **Surface area**: Sum of all triangle areas (square centimeters).
- **Watertight**: Whether every edge is shared by exactly two triangles. Open meshes may have holes or non-manifold edges.
- **Boundary edges**: Edges that belong to only one triangle, indicating holes.
- **Non-manifold edges**: Edges shared by more than two triangles, indicating non-manifold topology.

### Mesh quality

- **Connected components**: Number of independently connected mesh parts.
- **Isolated vertices**: Vertices not referenced by any face.
- **Normals**: Whether vertex normals are fully present (affects lighting).
- **Avg. edge length**: Mean length of all triangle edges in millimeters.
- **Triangle quality**: Mean triangle shape quality; equilateral = 100%, skinny triangles score lower.

### Materials & textures

- **Materials**: Number of materials assigned to the model.
- **Textures**: Number of texture images embedded or referenced.
- **Resolutions**: Pixel size and format of each texture slot.
- **GPU memory**: Estimated VRAM used by textures including mipmaps.

### Animation

- **Clips**: Number of animation clips stored in the file.
- **Bones**: Number of skeleton bones used for rigging and skinning.
