# 3D Model Decal Tool

Like sticking a real label: add logos, images, or text to any 3D model. Auto-wraps curves, trims sharp corners, punches holes at openings, and exports as independent GLB layers. Fully browser-local, no upload.

**Category:** 3D Model Editing Tools (`editing`)
**Subgroup:** Model Decal & Sticker (`model-decal`)

> Runs entirely in the browser. Files are not uploaded to Any3D servers.

## Overview

Upload a model, click the surface to place an image or text decal, then drag along the surface to move, scale, and rotate it. Unlike full-model AI retexturing or a flat paste, decals naturally hug curved surfaces and auto-trim at sharp edges and corners instead of stretching through to the back. When a decal crosses mesh holes, openings, or unreachable back sides, those regions are punched out automatically, leaving no floating or penetrating triangles. On export, each decal is saved as a separate mesh layer in the GLB without touching your original textures, so you can still select, move, or delete it individually in Blender or other apps.

## About Configuration Options

### Decal source

- **Type** (Default: Image): Choose an image decal or a text decal. Images work well for logos; text suits labels and signatures.
  - `image` — Image (Recommended): Upload PNG, JPG, or WebP (transparent PNG recommended).
  - `text` — Text: Enter text, then adjust size and color before placing.
- **Image file**: In image mode, upload the sticker artwork. Transparent PNG looks best on curves and sharp edges.
- **Text content**: In text mode, type the words you want to place on the model surface.

### Text style

- **Font size** (Default: 64px; Range: 24px – 160px): Font size in the text texture canvas (pixels). Larger sizes look sharper but use more texture space.
- **Color** (Default: #ffffff): Fill color of the text decal. Works well with a transparent background.

### Snap & Align

- **Enable Snap** (Default: On): Snap decals to model keypoints within the tolerance radius.
- **Alignment Guides** (Default: On): While dragging, align to the model bounds, center planes and other decal centers, showing guide lines.
- **Vertex** (Default: On): Snap to the nearest vertex.
- **Edge Midpoint** (Default: On): Snap to the nearest edge midpoint.
- **Face Center** (Default: On): Snap to the center of triangle faces.
- **Tolerance** (Default: 1; Range: 0.001 – 1000 · step 0.01): Snap search radius, relative to the model size. Larger values make it easier to hit keypoints.

### Place & edit

- **Place**: After preparing a decal, click the model surface to place it. Drag empty space to orbit the view.
- **Move**: Select a decal and drag the center handle. It slides along the surface and can wrap to the other side.
- **Scale** (Default: 0.18; Range: 0.05 – 0.6 · step 0.01): Drag the scale handles after selecting a decal. Size is relative to the model bounding-sphere radius, with a default initial value and editable range.
- **Rotate**: Drag the ring handle to spin around the surface normal. Snaps to 90° by default; hold Shift for free rotation.

### Export

- **Independent layers**: Each decal exports as a separate mesh layer without modifying original textures. Select, hide, or delete them individually in Blender and similar apps.

## FAQ

### Is this a decal sticker or an engrave/emboss effect?

The interaction works like a sticker: it wraps curved surfaces. This entry and the GLB/3MF pages export decals as independent textured mesh layers, so they are closest to sticker-style branding. The STL page bakes the pattern into a printable geometry layer, which is closer to an engraved marking effect.

### Can I add a logo to an STL file?

Yes. STL is accepted as input along with 20+ other formats. This page exports GLB after placement, with decals saved as textured sticker layers. For a printable STL mesh, export GLB and convert it with [GLB to STL](/tools/glb-to-stl). True embossed STL branding will be a separate tool.

### What happens at sharp corners or edges?

Decals auto-trim and break at the corner instead of being pulled across it, just like a real sticker that can't reach the inside of a 90° edge.

### Do decals auto-punch holes?

Yes. When a decal crosses a mesh hole, opening, or unreachable back side, that region is punched and trimmed automatically. The result is clean, natural edges with no floating or penetrating triangles.

### Are decals painted into the model's original texture?

No. Each decal is a separate textured mesh independent from the original material. The original texture stays fully intact, and you can hide or delete each decal individually in Blender or other apps.

### Is Any3D completely free?

Yes, Any3D's core features are free to use forever. We provide format conversion, model optimization, and online preview at no cost, with no registration required.

### Are my files uploaded to your servers?

No. Files you select are processed only in your browser on this device, so they never leave your device and are never sent to our servers. We don't store any user files; after processing, related data in browser memory is released.

### Do I need to install software?

No installation required. Any3D is entirely browser-based; just open the webpage to use all features. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and other major operating systems.

### Is there a file size limit?

The processing capacity depends on your device performance and the model's vertex count and texture complexity, rather than file size alone. We impose no file size limit, but when a model exceeds what your device can handle, the page may lag or even crash.
