# Rotate 3D Model

Rotate the model freely around the X, Y, and Z axes, set precise angles, and the result is saved directly to the exported file.

**Category:** 3D Model Editing Tools (`editing`)
**Subgroup:** Model Transform (`model-transform`)

> Runs entirely in the browser. Files are not uploaded to Any3D servers.

## Overview

Adjust the orientation of your 3D model for printing, display, and more. Rotate around all three axes with common angles such as 90° and 180°, or enter any custom angle. Rotation is applied locally in your browser, so your files are never uploaded anywhere. That makes the workflow safe, fast, and private.

## About Configuration Options

### General Settings

- **Transform Application** (Default: Modify root node): Choose how the transform is applied to the model: by modifying vertices (baked into geometry data) or by modifying the root node transform. Modifying vertices rewrites all vertex coordinates and applies consistently to every export format; modifying the root node keeps the original vertex coordinates, which is friendlier to animated, skinned, or geometry-sensitive workflows. Root node transform is the recommended default.
  - `bake` — Modify vertices: The transform is written into all vertex coordinates, rewriting geometry data; applies consistently to every export format.
  - `node` — Modify root node (Recommended): The transform is written to the root node (position/scale/rotation) while vertex coordinates stay unchanged; friendlier to animated or skinned models, but formats that ignore node transforms (such as STEP) won't apply it. Recommended default.

### Rotate Model

- **Rotation axis** (Default: Z): Rotate geometry around the selected axis.
  - `x` — X
  - `y` — Y
  - `z` — Z
- **Angle** (Default: 90°; Range: -360° – 360°): Custom angle in degrees. The panel also offers +90° / 180° / 270° / -90° shortcuts.

## FAQ

### What should I do if the model orientation is still wrong after rotating?

Check the axis and angle settings first. You often need to combine rotations, for example rotate around X first, then around Y, to reach the correct orientation.

### Can I change the rotation center?

The rotation center is currently fixed at the geometric center of the model, so it cannot be adjusted manually. If you need a different pivot point, move the model to the desired position first, then rotate.

### Does rotating the model affect its precision?

No. Rotation only changes the direction of the model, so the original details, dimensions, and precision are preserved completely, with no distortion or deformation.

### Can I rotate multiple models at the same time?

Only one model file can be processed at a time. To rotate several models, run them one by one or use a separate batch processing tool.

### How do I lay a model flat for 3D printing?

Identify the face that should sit on the build plate, select the matching axis, then rotate by 90° or a custom angle until that face is level. Rotating around the model center can leave it floating, so run the Drop to Ground tool afterwards to place it flat on the build plate.

### Can I enter an exact angle instead of using the quick buttons?

Yes. Alongside the 90°, 180°, 270°, and -90° quick buttons, the angle field accepts any value from -360° to 360°, such as 45° or 22.5°. Each apply re-rotates the model by the angle you enter, relative to its current orientation.

### Is Any3D completely free?

Yes, Any3D's core features are free to use forever. We provide format conversion, model optimization, and online preview at no cost, with no registration required.

### Are my files uploaded to your servers?

No. Files you select are processed only in your browser on this device, so they never leave your device and are never sent to our servers. We don't store any user files; after processing, related data in browser memory is released.

### Do I need to install software?

No installation required. Any3D is entirely browser-based; just open the webpage to use all features. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and other major operating systems.

### Is there a file size limit?

The processing capacity depends on your device performance and the model's vertex count and texture complexity, rather than file size alone. We impose no file size limit, but when a model exceeds what your device can handle, the page may lag or even crash.
