# Reset Pivot Point

Reset your 3D model's pivot to the bounding box center and align to the origin, making it easier for 3D printing, CAD, and game engines.

**Category:** 3D Model Editing Tools (`editing`)
**Subgroup:** Model Transform (`model-transform`)

> Runs entirely in the browser. Files are not uploaded to Any3D servers.

## Overview

This tool automatically resets the pivot point of a 3D model, moving it to the center of the bounding box and aligning to the world origin. No need for desktop software like Blender or Maya. After processing, the model's positioning and rotation become predictable in slicers, CAD programs, and game engines. Supports STL, GLB, OBJ, and more. All operations run locally in your browser, no files uploaded.

## About Configuration Options

### Reset Pivot

- **Quick Presets** (Default: Geometric Center): Instantly snap the pivot to standard geometric references on the model.
  - `center` — Geometric Center (Recommended): Bounding box center, optimal for rotations and symmetrical inspection.
  - `bottomCenter` — Bottom Center: Center of the model bottom face, ideal for 3D printing slicing and floor placement.
  - `topCenter` — Top Center: Center of the model top surface, suitable for hanging fixtures or inverted assemblies.
  - `origin` — Origin (0, 0, 0): Revert to the original world coordinate origin (0, 0, 0).
- **Pivot Coordinates & 3D Gizmo**: Drag the interactive Any3D translation gizmo in the 3D viewport along axes or planes, or input precise X, Y, Z world coordinates.

### Smart Snapping

- **Enable Snapping** (Default: on): Automatically snap the pivot to key bounding box centers, face midpoints, and corners. Hold Alt while dragging to temporarily disable snapping.
- **Mesh Surface Feature Snapping** (Default: off): Enable precision snapping to geometry vertices, edge midpoints, and triangle face centers (vertices/edges/faces).
- **Alignment Guides** (Default: on): Render magenta alignment guide lines traversing the model to indicate active snapping reference planes.

### General Settings

- **Transform Application** (Default: Modify root node): Choose how the transform is applied to the model: by modifying vertices (baked into geometry data) or by modifying the root node transform. Modifying vertices rewrites all vertex coordinates and applies consistently to every export format; modifying the root node keeps the original vertex coordinates, which is friendlier to animated, skinned, or geometry-sensitive workflows. Root node transform is the recommended default.
  - `bake` — Modify vertices: The transform is written into all vertex coordinates, rewriting geometry data; applies consistently to every export format.
  - `node` — Modify root node (Recommended): The transform is written to the root node (position/scale/rotation) while vertex coordinates stay unchanged; friendlier to animated or skinned models, but formats that ignore node transforms (such as STEP) won't apply it. Recommended default.

## FAQ

### Why reset the pivot point?

In 3D printing and game engines, the pivot point determines how the model rotates, scales, and positions. Resetting it to the bounding box center makes these operations more intuitive. This is an online alternative to manually adjusting in Blender or Maya, saving you time.

### Will the model deform after resetting the pivot?

No. Only the pivot point changes; the model's geometry, materials, textures, and other details remain unchanged. Only the spatial reference point is affected.

### What formats are supported for import and export?

Supports importing STL, GLB, OBJ, and other common formats. After automatically resetting the pivot, you can export as STL or GLB, keeping or switching between formats.

### How can I ensure the pivot alignment is correct?

The 3D preview simultaneously displays a semi-transparent original coordinate frame at (0, 0, 0) and an interactive target pivot Gizmo. You can drag the Gizmo with smart snapping to bounding box reference points and mesh surface features, or enter exact X/Y/Z values and presets in the sidebar.

### Will resetting the pivot break animations in my GLB?

For static models, the result is exact and safe. For rigged or animated files, the pivot offset is baked into the geometry rather than the scene transform, so it may affect animations. Always check the exported result in your target software before relying on it.

### Why does my model import off-center in other software?

Files often store the pivot (origin) far from the geometry. Software places the model by that pivot, so the part appears offset. Resetting the pivot centers the geometry on the world origin, making placement predictable in slicers, CAD, and game engines.

### Is Any3D completely free?

Yes, Any3D's core features are free to use forever. We provide format conversion, model optimization, and online preview at no cost, with no registration required.

### Are my files uploaded to your servers?

No. Files you select are processed only in your browser on this device, so they never leave your device and are never sent to our servers. We don't store any user files; after processing, related data in browser memory is released.

### Do I need to install software?

No installation required. Any3D is entirely browser-based; just open the webpage to use all features. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and other major operating systems.

### Is there a file size limit?

The processing capacity depends on your device performance and the model's vertex count and texture complexity, rather than file size alone. We impose no file size limit, but when a model exceeds what your device can handle, the page may lag or even crash.
