# Gaussian Splatting Viewer

View millions of 3D Gaussians with real-time photorealistic rendering at 100+ FPS.

**Category:** 3D Model Viewer Tools (`preview`)
**Subgroup:** 3D Model Viewer (`model-viewer`)

**HTML:** https://any3d.cc/en-US/tools/splat-viewer

> Runs entirely in the browser. Files are not uploaded to Any3D servers.

## Overview

This is a free online Gaussian Splatting viewer for .splat, .spz, .ksplat, .sog, and PLY formats. Inspect scenes rendered from millions of 3D Gaussian ellipsoids, each carrying position, rotation, scale, color, and opacity data. All rendering happens locally on your GPU through WebGL, so your files never leave your browser.

## About Configuration Options

### Preview settings

- **Auto-rotate** (Default: Off): Slowly rotate the model around the vertical axis after loading for a full view. Can be toggled anytime in the left panel.
  - `on` — On: Auto-rotate after loading
  - `off` — Off (Recommended): Stay still, rotate manually only (default)

### Animation

- **Clips**: Number of animation clips stored in the file.
- **Bones**: Number of skeleton bones used for rigging and skinning.

## Format Information

### Input format

- **Extension:** splat, splatt, spz, ksplat, sog, ply
- **Full Name:** Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)
- **Type:** 3D Scene Representation
- **Format:** Gaussian Splatting Binary
- **Tools:** [3D Gaussian Splatting](https://github.com/graphdeco-inria/gaussian-splatting), [SuperSplat](https://playcanvas.com/supersplat), [Nerfstudio](https://docs.nerf.studio)
- **Open With:** [SuperSplat Editor](https://playcanvas.com/supersplat), [Gaussian Viewer](https://any3d.cc/en-US/tools/splat-viewer)
- **Description:** Gaussian splatting (3DGS) is a 3D scene representation method that has gained traction in recent years. It uses millions of 3D Gaussian ellipsoids to achieve photorealistic novel view synthesis on consumer GPUs, rendering in real time at 100+ FPS. It is widely used in next-generation scene reconstruction and digital human applications following NeRF.

SPLAT is the native container format for Gaussian splatting. It is fundamentally different from mesh-based systems: it has no editable topology and cannot be directly used for 3D printing or traditional modeling workflows. The current ecosystem also includes compressed variants such as SPZ, KSPLAT, and SOG, which accelerate web loading.
- **Supported Features:**
  - Gaussian position, rotation, and scale attributes
  - Spherical harmonics color representation
  - Real-time photorealistic rendering at 100+ FPS
  - Smooth camera navigation
  - Progressive file loading for large scenes
- **Notes:**
  - Not a traditional polygonal mesh; it represents scenes via overlapping Gaussian primitives
  - Requires GPU for rendering (WebGL supported)
  - Formats: .splat (raw), .spz (compressed), .ksplat, .sog, .ply

## FAQ

### What is Gaussian Splatting?

Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) is a breakthrough 3D scene representation method that uses millions of 3D Gaussian ellipsoids to represent scenes. Each Gaussian carries position, rotation, scale, color, and opacity attributes. It achieves real-time photorealistic rendering at 100+ FPS on consumer GPUs, an order of magnitude faster than traditional NeRF methods.

### Do I need a powerful GPU to view .splat files?

For viewing, most modern GPUs handle typical .splat files easily. Scenes with millions of Gaussians run best on a dedicated GPU, but integrated graphics can still manage. Rendering happens entirely in your browser via WebGL, so no server-side processing is needed.

### Can I convert .splat files to other formats?

Yes. You can convert .splat files to mesh formats like OBJ or PLY using tools such as SuGaR or the official gs-to-mesh pipeline. For format conversion, use our 3D Model Converter tool.

### What software creates .splat files?

.splat files are generated by training pipelines from multi-view photographs. Common tools include the official Gaussian Splatting implementation, Nerfstudio extensions, SuperSplat editor, and various web-based trainers. The output is a photorealistic 3D scene captured from an image set.

### Can Gaussian Splatting be used in AR/VR experiences?

Yes. 3DGS is a popular choice for AR/VR because it renders photorealistic scenes in real time. Preview your .splat scene here first, then export it to compatible AR/VR pipelines and players for deployment.

### Why do I see floating blobs or blurry areas?

These come from the capture, not the viewer. Areas seen from few angles turn out blurry, and stray splats float in the air. Capture more angles or crop them out in a splat editor.

### Is Any3D completely free?

Yes, Any3D's core features are free to use forever. We provide format conversion, model optimization, and online preview at no cost, with no registration required.

### Are my files uploaded to your servers?

No. Files you select are processed only in your browser on this device, so they never leave your device and are never sent to our servers. We don't store any user files; after processing, related data in browser memory is released.

### Do I need to install software?

No installation required. Any3D is entirely browser-based; just open the webpage to use all features. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and other major operating systems.

### Is there a file size limit?

The processing capacity depends on your device performance and the model's vertex count and texture complexity, rather than file size alone. We impose no file size limit, but when a model exceeds what your device can handle, the page may lag or even crash.
