# Texture Extractor

Extract embedded textures and materials from GLB and FBX 3D models: preview high-res maps, download PNG textures, or export reusable material GLBs.

## Overview

Extract embedded textures and PBR materials from GLB, FBX, OBJ, and USDZ files. Inspect high-resolution Base Color, Normal, Roughness, Metalness, and ORM maps directly in your browser. Whether ripping textures from GLB models or unpacking embedded texture packages from binary FBX files, you can preview all maps, download them as high-quality PNGs, or export a standalone material GLB library. 100% processed client-side.

### Texture map types you will see

Most modern models use a PBR material: several images that each describe one property of the surface.

- **Base color:** The plain color of the surface, without light or shadow.
- **Normal:** A purple-blue image that fakes small bumps and dents.
- **Roughness:** Gray image: dark is shiny, light is matte.
- **Metalness:** Gray image: white is metal, black is not.
- **ORM:** One image holding three maps: occlusion in red, roughness in green, metalness in blue (the glTF layout).
- **Emissive:** Parts that glow on their own.

## About Configuration Options

### Export options

- **All textures ZIP**: Export every texture as original-resolution PNG and download them in a single ZIP. This is the default download action.
- **Each material as GLB (ZIP)**: Export each material as its own mesh-free GLB (material definition + textures only), then pack them into a ZIP, useful for splitting a material library.
- **All materials as one GLB**: Merge every material into a single GLB file for one-shot import of the full material set.
- **Single texture PNG**: Download the currently selected texture as lossless PNG at original resolution. KTX2 compressed maps are converted to PNG automatically.
- **Single material GLB**: Export the selected material as a standalone mesh-free GLB for reuse in Blender, Unity, Unreal, and similar tools.
- **Multi-select materials**: Hold Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) and click materials in the sidebar to select several, then batch-download them as a ZIP. Press Esc to clear the selection.

### Browse and filter

- **Search**: Filter the sidebar list by material name or texture file name.
- **Texture type**: Filter by map slot such as diffuse, normal, roughness, metalness, emissive, or AO. Shown only when the model has more than one slot type.

### Inspect properties

- **Material properties**: Inspect material type (for example Standard PBR), base color, metalness, roughness, and other scalar or color fields. Copy individual rows or export full JSON.
- **Texture properties**: Inspect resolution, color space, wrap mode, filter mode, and anisotropy sampling parameters.
- **Material sphere preview**: Preview the material on a 3D sphere with HDR environment lighting to judge maps and PBR parameters at a glance.
- **Wireframe / solid**: Toggle wireframe and solid rendering in the model preview to inspect mesh topology.

### Example: reusing a material in Blender

Here is a typical way to put extracted textures on another model.

Example: you like the worn metal look of one model and want it on your own part.

1. **Extract:** Load the model here and download the texture package.
2. **Base color:** In Blender, connect the base color image to Base Color of the Principled BSDF.
3. **Data maps:** Set roughness, metalness and normal images to Non-Color, so Blender does not shift their values.
4. **Normal:** Connect the normal image through a Normal Map node.
5. **Check:** Only reuse textures you have the rights to.

## FAQ

### How do I extract textures from GLB or FBX models?

Drop your GLB or FBX file into the tool. The extractor instantly parses the model's internal binary buffers, decodes embedded image data (PNG, JPEG, WebP, KTX2), and displays every PBR texture map (Diffuse, Normal, Roughness, Metallic, Emissive). You can download individual maps as PNG, export all textures as a ZIP package, or generate a material-only GLB for reuse.

### What is a texture extractor?

It pulls embedded image textures and material information out of a 3D file without desktop DCC software, which makes the maps easy to reuse and inspect.

### Can I rip textures from game or web models?

The tool only processes the files you upload, so it works on models you have already extracted or downloaded. Respect copyright and game or website terms; only extract resources you own or have permission to use.

### What formats can I extract textures from?

You can extract from GLB, GLTF, FBX, OBJ, USDZ, and similar formats that store embedded textures. Pure mesh formats such as STL and PLY contain no texture data, so there is nothing to extract.

### What is a material GLB?

A material GLB is a GLB file that contains only material definitions and textures, with no mesh geometry. You can load it as a material library in Blender or Three.js and reuse the textures on other models.

### Why are some texture maps missing?

You only get the images that are actually in the file. Many models use a plain color value instead of an image, or have no normal or roughness map at all.

### Why are the textures so small?

Models made for the web or mobile often ship with small textures to save space, which is how they stay light. The tool gives you the images at the size stored in the file and does not upscale them.
