# Texture Image Compression

Upload texture images or a ZIP archive, resize and convert to WebP, JPEG, PNG, or KTX2. Batch compress up to 50 files and download as ZIP.

**Category:** 3D Model Optimization Tools (`optimization`)
**Subgroup:** Texture Image Tools (`texture-image`)

**HTML:** https://any3d.cc/en-US/tools/texture-image-compression

> Runs entirely in the browser. Files are not uploaded to Any3D servers.

## Overview

Optimize standalone texture images for games, 3D pipelines, and web projects. Resize to power-of-two limits, convert to efficient formats, and export compressed files locally in your browser. No server upload.

## Tips

- Supports PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, and TGA input, or upload a ZIP archive
- Batch up to 50 images; multiple outputs download as ZIP
- Output formats: WebP, JPEG, PNG, KTX2, or keep original format
- Max size options: 512px to 4096px or original resolution

## About Configuration Options

### Texture / Image

- **Max Texture Size** (Default: 1024px): Clamp all textures to this maximum dimension, reducing texture memory and file size.
  - `256` — 256px
  - `512` — 512px
  - `1024` — 1024px (Recommended)
  - `2048` — 2048px
  - `4096` — 4096px
  - `0` — Keep Original Size
- **Texture Format** (Default: WebP): Convert textures to a more efficient format. WebP offers excellent compression and wide browser support.
  - `webp` — WebP (Recommended)
  - `jpeg` — JPEG
  - `png` — PNG
  - `ktx2` — KTX2
  - `original` — Keep Original Format
- **Quality** (Default: 0.75; Range: 0.1 – 1 · step 0.05): Sets the compression quality for WebP and JPEG formats.
- **KTX2 Encoding Mode**: ETC1S produces smaller files, ideal for diffuse maps. UASTC preserves more detail, recommended for normal maps.

## How to use

### 1. Import Texture Maps

Drag and drop one or more texture images or a ZIP archive, or click to browse.

### 2. Set Compression Parameters

Choose max size, output format, and quality.

### 3. Compress & Export

Compress all maps with consistent settings and download them as individual files or a single ZIP archive.

## FAQ

### Which output format should I choose?

WebP offers the best file size for web use. JPEG works well for photos without transparency. PNG preserves alpha and lossless detail. KTX2 is best for real-time 3D engines (WebGL, Unity, Unreal) with GPU-optimized compression.

### Can I compress multiple textures at once?

Yes. Upload up to 50 images, apply the same settings to all, then download a ZIP containing every compressed file.

### What is the recommended max texture size?

For most real-time 3D and web use, 1024px or 2048px is sufficient. Use original size only when you need full resolution.

### When should I use KTX2?

Use KTX2 when textures will be loaded in 3D engines with Basis Universal support. For general image sharing or 2D web use, WebP or JPEG is easier to preview and edit.

### What is a power-of-two texture and why does it matter?

GPUs process textures most efficiently when their dimensions are powers of two (e.g. 256, 512, 1024). Otherwise the driver rescales the texture, which can cause blurriness or extra memory use. This tool offers power-of-two sizes from 512 to 4096 pixels.

### How is this different from model texture compression?

This tool compresses standalone image files. Our model texture compression tool optimizes textures embedded inside 3D models and exports a compressed GLB.

### Is Any3D completely free?

Yes, Any3D's core features are free to use forever. We provide format conversion, model optimization, and online preview at no cost, with no registration required.

### Are my files uploaded to your servers?

No. Files you select are processed only in your browser on this device, so they never leave your device and are never sent to our servers. We don't store any user files; after processing, related data in browser memory is released.

### Do I need to install software?

No installation required. Any3D is entirely browser-based; just open the webpage to use all features. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and other major operating systems.

### Is there a file size limit?

The processing capacity depends on your device performance and the model's vertex count and texture complexity, rather than file size alone. We impose no file size limit, but when a model exceeds what your device can handle, the page may lag or even crash.
