WebP

WebP is a modern image format developed by Google, supporting both lossy and lossless compression as well as an alpha channel. Under the same visual quality, file sizes are typically 25-35% smaller than JPEG or PNG, making it a mainstream choice for web performance optimization.

WebP browser compatibility is now very mature, but it may still not be supported in older systems and some professional software. When used as a 3D texture or input for image-to-3D conversion, its performance is comparable to PNG; just be aware of compression artifacts in lossy mode.
