JPEG

JPEG and JPG are two extension spellings for the same format, with identical content, both referring to the lossy image standard established by the JPEG committee. Some systems prefer .jpg (a remnant of Windows' early 8.3 naming convention), while some software outputs .jpeg. The two are interchangeable.

JPEG is suitable for photographic content, does not support transparency channels, and the higher the compression rate, the more obvious the artifacts. In an image-to-3D workflow, it is suitable as a heightmap input, but for contour extraction scenarios, it is recommended to use PNG instead to obtain precise segmentation of the subject's edges.
