What information is lost when converting 3MF to STL?
STL only stores mesh geometry. All 3MF-specific data such as color, material properties, print settings, and multi-part assemblies will be stripped during conversion. Only the triangle mesh is preserved.
Why would I convert 3MF to STL instead of keeping 3MF?
Some older slicers, firmware, or 3D printing workflows do not support 3MF. Converting to STL ensures your model can be opened in virtually any 3D printing software or sent directly to printers that only accept STL.
How are multi-part assemblies in 3MF handled?
All parts in the 3MF file are merged into a single STL file. If you need to print parts separately, split them in a 3MF editing tool first, then convert each part individually.
How much larger will the STL file be compared to 3MF?
STL stores mesh data without compression, while 3MF uses XML with compression. The converted STL is typically 2–5 times larger than the original 3MF, depending on model complexity.
Will 3MF print settings be preserved?
No. 3MF can store slicing settings, support structures, and print parameters as metadata, but STL only saves geometry. You will need to reconfigure print settings in your slicer after conversion.
Can I batch convert multiple 3MF files?
