Informazioni sullo strumento
STL has been the 3D printing standard for decades, but it only stores raw geometry. Converting to 3MF unlocks modern features: color per triangle, material properties, print settings metadata, and multi-body assemblies — all in a compact, XML-based format.

Domande frequenti
What advantages does 3MF have over STL for 3D printing?
3MF supports vertex colors, material assignments, print settings (infill, supports), multiple bodies in one file, and full unit definitions. It also uses modern compression for smaller file sizes compared to equivalent STL files.
Will my STL model gain color after conversion to 3MF?
Converting STL to 3MF preserves the mesh geometry but does not add color data that was not in the original file. However, the 3MF container structure enables you to add color and material information later using compatible 3MF editors.
Will non-manifold meshes in STL cause conversion failure?
Non-manifold edges and open boundaries will not prevent conversion, but may cause issues in some slicers. We recommend repairing mesh problems with tools like Meshmixer before converting.
Is the 3MF file smaller than the original STL?
Usually yes. 3MF uses ZIP compression, so the resulting file is typically 30–60% of the original STL size. More complex models tend to compress even better.
Which software can open 3MF files?
3MF is widely supported by mainstream 3D printing software including Microsoft 3D Builder, PrusaSlicer, Cura, Chitubox, and Fusion 360. Windows 10/11 also has built-in 3MF preview support.
Will conversion change the model dimensions or proportions?
No. The conversion preserves the original STL geometry exactly. Note that STL has no unit definition — if you need to specify units (e.g., millimeters), set them in a 3MF-compatible editor after conversion.
