About This Tool

This tool converts 2D DXF drawing exchange files into clean SVG vector graphics inside your browser. Supports ASCII and binary DXF output from AutoCAD, LibreCAD, QCAD, and KiCad. Turn layers off in the left panel and the exported SVG keeps only the visible layers; layers that are off or frozen in the file start switched off and can be turned back on. Strictly limited to 2D drawings; 3D meshes and solids are blocked.

Tips

  • 1Works with ASCII and binary DXF files from any CAD or PCB software
  • 2Turn off annotation and title-block layers you do not need before exporting
  • 3Resulting vector paths are optimized for laser cutters and CNC tools

About Configuration Options

Layers

Show layer

Defaulton

Toggles both the preview and the export: layers switched off here are omitted from the SVG. Layers the DXF itself marks as off or frozen start hidden and can be switched on.

Format Information

Input format

Extension:
dxf
Full Name:
DXF (Drawing Exchange Format)
Type:
CAD Drawing
Format:
DXF
Open With:
DXF Viewer
Description:
DXF is a CAD drawing exchange format developed by Autodesk. It stores 2D drawings as text or binary files, including geometry, layers, text, and dimension annotations. DXF is widely supported by CAD programs beyond AutoCAD, making it a common format for sharing drawings between different software.

Notes:

  • CAD software required for editing entities
  • Text files can be large for complex drawings

Supported Features:

  • Open standard supported by most CAD programs
  • Stores lines, polylines, arcs, circles and blocks
  • Layer and color information preserved
  • Suitable for architecture and engineering drawings

Output format

Extension:
svg
Full Name:
Scalable Vector Graphics
Type:
Vector Image
Format:
SVG
Open With:
Vector Editor、Web Browser、Inkscape
Description:
SVG is an XML-based vector image format that uses mathematical descriptions for shapes, paths, and text. It is resolution-independent, so edges remain sharp at any scale, making it ideal for logos, icons, and typography. Its vector nature gives SVG clear advantages when converting to 3D: outlines are smooth and free of jagged edges, which is perfect for generating clean-edged reliefs or extruded text models. During conversion, note that complex paths and gradients may be simplified, and it is recommended to merge multiple layers before processing.

Notes:

  • Raster effects or embedded bitmaps may not convert as vectors
  • Complex SVGs with many paths may increase conversion time

Supported Features:

  • Resolution-independent vector graphics
  • Perfect sharp edges at any scale
  • Supports fills, strokes, and compound paths
  • Small file sizes for simple designs

How to Use

1

Select 2D DXF drawing

Drag and drop your 2D DXF file or click to select from your device.

2

Inspect geometry and layers

Review linework and adjust layer visibility in the side settings panel.

3

Convert to vector paths

Lines, polylines, and arcs become clean vector paths.

4

Download tailored SVG

Save the SVG file; only the layers left visible are written.

Frequently Asked Questions

View all FAQs
Q

Why does this converter block 3D entities in DXF files?

A

SVG is a flat two-dimensional format, so 3D meshes and extruded surfaces cannot be represented in it. Files that contain 3D geometry are stopped before conversion.

Q

How do I export only certain DXF layers to SVG?

A

Hiding a layer in the left panel removes it from the export, so annotation and title-block layers can be dropped without touching the DXF. Layers that are off or frozen inside the file start hidden; turn them on in the panel to include them.

Q

Are both text and binary DXF files supported?

A

Yes. Readable text DXF and compact binary DXF convert with the same result.

Q

Do arcs and curved polylines stay smooth in the SVG?

A

Yes. Curved pieces are written as real arcs, and straight and curved segments stay connected as one continuous line.

Q

Can I convert DXF board outlines exported from KiCad or FreeCAD?

A

Yes. 2D DXF exports from open-source tools like KiCad, FreeCAD, and LibreCAD are fully supported. Edge cuts, mechanical outlines, and milling profiles convert cleanly into vector paths.

Q

How is the SVG canvas sized around the drawing?

A

The canvas is trimmed to the drawing itself, so there are no wide empty margins around the geometry.
