About This Tool

STEP is a universal model exchange format in mechanical design, commonly used for parts and assemblies. This tool directly opens STEP files of various versions, smoothly previewing high-precision surfaces and assembly structures. It supports rotation, zoom, and pan, making it easy to quickly inspect the model's appearance and assembly relationships. Files are processed locally only and are never uploaded.

STEP suits engineering precision, not real-time rendering. Browsers and game engines require conversion to mesh. Recommended workflow: design in CAD, export STEP for archiving, then convert to STL/GLB for preview or printing. .stp and .step are identical variants.

Can I expand a STEP assembly to view each part?

Yes. After opening the assembly, you can inspect each part layer by layer by rotating and zooming. However, currently it does not support individually hiding or disassembling parts, but the overall structure is clearly visible.

What if a STEP file won't open or displays incorrectly?

A

Please make sure the file is complete and not corrupted. If it still doesn't work, try saving the file as AP214 or AP242 format using CAD software, then reopen it.

Are STEP and STP the same thing?

A

Yes. STP is just a short extension for STEP; the content is identical. Whether you have a .step or .stp file, this tool can open it directly.

Why does my STEP model have no color?

A

The STEP format mainly stores geometry and usually does not include color information. If you want to see a colored model, we recommend using formats with material support, such as glTF or OBJ.

Can I view STEP files created in different CAD programs?

A

Yes. STEP is a neutral exchange standard, so files exported from SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, CATIA, and other CAD tools open here directly.
