IGES (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) is a foundational neutral CAD exchange format used throughout aerospace and automotive manufacturing. Many legacy engineering archives store 3D models in .iges or .igs files. This tool parses CAD geometry directly in your browser using local WebAssembly, allowing you to inspect trimmed B-Rep surfaces and standalone wireframe curves with smooth orbit, zoom, and pan controls.

There is no difference in data or structure. The .igs extension is simply a three-letter abbreviation for the .iges format. Both extensions represent the Initial Graphics Exchange Specification format and work identically in this viewer.
IGES files frequently store independent surface entities and trimmed curves without watertight solid boundary representation (B-Rep) topology. Open surfaces and standalone curves render as wireframe or unjoined surface patches, whereas closed solid bodies render as fully shaded meshes.

Both are neutral CAD exchange standards. STEP (ISO 10303) is a newer format that supports complete solid topology, assembly hierarchies, and metadata. IGES (ASME/ANSI) is an older surface-centric format common in legacy engineering archives.
