Description:
WebP is a modern image format developed by Google, supporting both lossy and lossless compression as well as an alpha channel. Under the same visual quality, file sizes are typically 25-35% smaller than JPEG or PNG, making it a mainstream choice for web performance optimization. WebP browser compatibility is now very mature, but it may still not be supported in older systems and some professional software. When used as a 3D texture or input for image-to-3D conversion, its performance is comparable to PNG; just be aware of compression artifacts in lossy mode.

It is ideal for photographs, screenshots, and web images. The downside of JPG is that compression introduces block artifacts and it does not support transparency, causing edges and text to blur. For image-to-3D conversion, JPG suits photographic height maps, but for contour-based conversion, PNG is recommended for clean edges; artifacts at the boundary between dark backgrounds and subject may affect the quality of the generated mesh.

My WebP was saved losslessly, will the JPG keep that quality?

No. JPG always uses lossy compression, so the output is re-encoded and cannot be pixel-identical to a lossless WebP. Use the quality slider to balance fidelity against file size.
