JPG files are much smaller than PNG for photographic images. When file size matters more than perfect quality, like on web pages, converting PNG to JPG is very useful.
JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas in the PNG will be filled with white. If you need transparent output, use PNG or WebP format.

Usually not. Normal and data maps need clean detail, so prefer lossless formats like PNG. JPG is better for color/albedo textures without alpha.
No, converting PNG to JPG does not preserve embedded ICC profiles. The output JPG is saved with sRGB color space. For best color accuracy, ensure your PNG uses sRGB or adjust colors manually before converting.
It is not recommended. JPG is lossy, so once you delete the PNG, the discarded detail cannot be recovered. Keep the original file if you may need to re-export at higher quality later.
